Club Improvement Pointscore Awards

The Club improvement point score awards reward consistent effort and improvement over the swimming year (generally 1 October to 30 September). At presentation day, an award is given to the male and female in each age group, who scores the most points over the year.

The below rules for the club improvement point scores were adopted at the executive committee meeting of 14 September 2022 and apply to the 2022/23 season (commencing  1 October 2022) onwards.

Awards

Perpetual trophies are awarded for the age categories 8 and under, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and over.

There are separate male and female trophies. Each winner receives a small trophy to keep but the perpetual trophy remains with the Club.

The winner is determined by the points for improvement during the year. Points are awarded for personal best (PB) swims on official times recorded on the National Results Database.

Points

Points set at schools meets are excluded from consideration in calculation of point scores.

Only swims where the swimmer appears in the Meet Manager results file as swimming for the Canberra Amateur Swimming Club (CBRA) will score points. PBs set at meets where the swimmer is entered for any team other than Canberra Amateur Swimming Club (CBRA) are excluded from consideration in calculation of point scores.

Long course times are compared to the long course PB and similarly for short course races. No conversions are done to determine the points using this system.

Every time a swimmer swims a PB that is recorded in the National Results Database at a meet or club night, they get a varying amount of points, awarded as follows:

  • 1 point – first time swim for an event (long and short course events are one event)
  • 1 point – PB between 0.01 and 1.00 seconds
  • 2 points – PB between 1.01 and 2.00 seconds
  • 3 points – PB between 2.01 and 3.00 seconds
  • 4 points – PB of more than 3.01 seconds
  • 1 point – each event* at NSW Country Championships (in addition to PB points, if any)
  • 2 points – each event* at NSW State Championships (in addition to PB points, if any)
  • 3 points – each event* at Australian Championships (in addition to PB points, if any).

*Heats, semi-finals and finals combined constitute one event.

Note: at meets with heats, finals and/or semi-finals, points for PBs are calculated on the difference between the swimmer’s heat entry time and their best time from the heat, semi- final or final. Only one set of bonus points are allocated for each event, not one set for the heat swim and one for the finals swim.

The Canberra ASC Race Secretary will source Meet Manager results files for meets held by Swimming ACT or Swimming ACT affiliated clubs within the Swimming ACT zone, for NSW Country Regional, NSW Country, NSW State Age, NSW State open and National Age meets. It is the responsibility of the swimmer to source Meet Manager results files for any meets at which they compete outside of those listed above and provide by email to racesecretary@canberra.org.au by no later than 14 calendar days after the meet. No points will be awarded if no results file is provided.

The age up date for tracking of club improvement pointscores will be 30 September. i.e. swimmers will be classified in the age group corresponding to their age on 30 September in the season.
