By being a member of a swimming club you become part of a team that provides an enjoyable, safe and healthy environment to develop competitive swimming skills. Canberra ASC is affiliated with Swimming ACT and Swimming NSW, providing a competition framework for swimmers to compete at local, state and national meets.
An annual club membership is payable for the swimming year which runs from 1 October to 30 September. Membership includes Club, Swimming ACT, Swimming NSW and Swimming Australia fee components. This membership is in addition to the squad membership fees that you will pay directly to the YMCA training programme. Fees payable to Swimming Australia and Swimming NSW provide insurance for training and competition. Where a swimming member is under the age of 18 a non-swimming adult must also join as a dry member of the club.
Canberra ASC trains out of the Gungahlin Leisure Centre which is operated by Belgravia Leisure. Training fees and coaching is managed by the Gungahlin Leisure Centre and fees are paid via direct debit on a weekly basis (separate to the annual Club Membership) – Visit our Training Page for more information here.

Please note, current membership of the Club is necessary in order to compete in all swimming meets. Swimming NSW and Swimming ACT have both advised that failure to be a financial member of a club, or a Parent/guardian having a Primary Dry-Membership will result in any times achieved at official swimming meets not being uploaded into the official National Results Database.
To join Canberra ASC you will need to create a Swim Central account and purchase our membership products. Swim Central is the membership and event entry system that empowers parents, swimmers, administrators and coaches to participate and run community swimming. Swimming NSW has a number of member resources to help guide you through Swim Central. You can learn how to get started and set up a family group here. Please note if you are registering a child to swim then the parent/guardian is the primary member and the child is added as a dependent to your account. The parent/guardian is required to purchase non-swimmer membership. Remember that we are here to help so don’t hesitate to contact our registrar if anything is not clear. (see our contacts page).
Instructions on how to purchase Canberra ASC membership products can be found here.
To renew your Canberra ASC membership you will need to purchase the new memberships products for your family group. Instructions on how to purchase Canberra ASC membership products can be found here.
Each new swimming member will be given a Canberra ASC swimming cap upon joining. Additional caps can be purchased through our uniform shop and are compulsory when competing. The Canberra ASC polo shirt is also compulsory uniform item and helps swimmers to be identified as part of our team. Other uniform items are available for special order during the year. To purchase a uniform item please email our uniform manager Tracy King at uniform@canberra.org.au.
Timekeeping is a requirement of members at all swimming meets. If you have a swimmer in the meet you must timekeeper. All clubs in the ACT are allocated lanes to fill based on how many swimmers enter the meet. Usually Canberra ASC needs to fill two lanes (that’s six timekeepers at any one time throughout the entire meet). Parents and carers must be prepared to do at least one shift of timekeeping each day. If you cannot fill your shift it is your responsibility to find a replacement or swap shifts. If you do not show up for your shift it means someone else will need to do a double shift to fill your spot.
The Canberra ASC Committee will organise the roster and it will be emailed out to you prior to the meet (sometimes as late as the night before if the timeline is not available earlier). You don’t need any experience and it’s easy!! You will be provided with refreshments during your shift and the chairs are better too!!
If you require further information or assistance please email registrar@canberra.org.au
